  • Recognizing contrasts in sound: high and low, loud and soft, fast and slow.
  • Exploring simple instruments like maracas, claves, xylophone or recorder.
  • Getting to know the first music symbols through shapes, colors and games, before formal reading.
  • Listening closely to a wide range of music, including Colombian rhythms like cumbia and bambuco.

When can you start?

From age 3

As a guide, early music education works very well between ages 3 and 7, when children learn through play and movement; with the youngest, sessions are short and very active, and around age 6 or 7 music reading and the first steps on an instrument are gradually introduced. This is only a guideline: every child has their own attention span and pace of maturity, and the teacher adapts the lesson to that. To dig deeper, read what age to start studying music. And if you're an adult starting from scratch, you can also begin at any age with an approach designed for you.

What you need to get started

  • A clear space where the child can move around, sit on the floor and sing freely.
  • A few simple percussion instruments (maracas, claves, a small drum); the teacher will advise you on what to get.
  • An adult nearby during the first lessons, especially with the youngest children.
  • For online lessons: a stable connection and a device with a camera, placed so the child's whole body is visible.

Why learn early music education

  • Develops the ear and a sense of rhythm, a foundation that makes any instrument easier to learn later on.

  • Works on attention, memory and coordination through play.

  • Helps you find out which instrument catches your child's interest, without pressuring them to choose too soon.

  • Turns music into a space for expression and confidence, including for shy children.

Questions about early music education lessons

What's the difference between early music education and instrument lessons?

In early music education, the goal isn't to master an instrument but to build the foundations: pulse, ear, voice, coordination and a love of music. That's why it uses songs, movement and simple instruments. When the child is ready and shows interest, the natural next step is to choose an instrument, for example the piano.

Does early music education work in online lessons with young children?

Yes, though it needs support. With children aged 3 to 5, it's best to have an adult nearby to help with the camera, materials and attention; from age 6, many children follow the lesson quite independently. If you're torn between formats, this comparison of in-home or online lessons may help.

Does my child need to have an instrument to start?

It's not essential. In the early stages, the voice, the body and a few small percussion instruments are enough, and these can even be homemade. Later on, if a melodic instrument comes in, the teacher will advise you on which one to get.

How long does the early music education stage last?

There's no set timeline: it depends on how old the child is when they start and how they progress. Some move on to an instrument after a few months; others prefer to keep exploring a while longer, or do both. The teacher watches their development and recommends when to take the next step.

Which areas of Bogotá do the teachers cover?

We give in-home lessons in and around Bogotá. Coverage depends on the neighborhood and each teacher’s availability, so send us your approximate address and we’ll confirm.

Can I take lessons from another city or from outside the country?

Yes, through live online lessons by video call, from any city in Colombia or abroad, with the same weekly follow-up. See how online music lessons work.

How much do lessons cost?

Each lesson lasts 90 minutes. With the monthly plan of 4 classes, each lesson costs less than a single class. See your rate on our pricing page.
