Piano lessons in Bogotá, at home and online

The piano is one of the most complete instruments for learning music: the keyboard makes harmony visible, lets you play melody and accompaniment together, and helps you understand how scales and chords are built. Lessons develop technique, reading and ear skills through music that motivates you, from classical pieces to ballads, salsa and soundtracks. Your teacher comes to your home in Bogotá and the surrounding area or teaches you online.

What you'll learn in piano lessons

  • Posture, hand position and fingering so you can play without tension.
  • Reading in treble and bass clef, with both hands.
  • Scales, chords and inversions to understand harmony from the keyboard.
  • Hand independence: melody in one hand and accompaniment in the other.
  • Repertoire tailored to you: classical, pop, jazz, Latin music or film soundtracks.
  • Accompanying songs from chord symbols and playing by ear.

When can you start?

From age 5

As a guide, many children start piano between ages 5 and 6, when they can already move their fingers independently and stay focused through a short lesson. Some start earlier with a very playful approach, and others benefit from going through early music education first; it depends on the child. Adults can start at any age, and the teacher puts together a realistic plan based on how much time you have to practice.

What you need to get started

  • An acoustic piano or an 88-key touch-sensitive keyboard; a smaller one can work for the first steps, so check with your teacher.
  • A bench or chair at the right height, so your forearms are parallel to the floor.
  • A music stand or holder for sheet music, and a metronome (an app works).
  • For online lessons: a stable connection and a camera placed to the side or overhead that shows both hands.

Why learn piano

  • Gives you a clear view of harmony, useful even if you later switch instruments or want to compose.

  • Develops coordination and independence between your two hands.

  • Lets you play on your own and sound complete, with no accompaniment needed.

  • It's very versatile: it works in classical, jazz, pop and Latin music, and for accompanying singers.

Questions about piano lessons

Do I need a piano at home, or will a keyboard do?

A keyboard is fine to start with, ideally one with 88 touch-sensitive or weighted keys, because that's how you develop volume control and finger strength. A very small keyboard, or one without touch sensitivity, works for the first steps but soon falls short. If you're going to buy one, ask your teacher which features to prioritize.

Piano or guitar: which is better to start with?

Both are excellent first instruments, and the best choice is the one that motivates you most to practice. The piano makes theory easier to understand because everything is laid out in front of you; the guitar is more portable and very handy for accompanying songs. We explain it in detail in piano or guitar as a first instrument.

How long will it take me to play my first songs?

It depends on your starting point, how much you practice and the song. It's common to play simple melodies with basic accompaniment from the first lessons, but everyone's path is different. Your teacher picks pieces suited to your level so you play real music from the start.

Do I have to learn to read sheet music?

It's highly recommended, because it lets you learn repertoire on your own, and it's introduced gradually alongside what you play. If your goal is to accompany songs or play by ear, the teacher can balance reading with work on chords and chord symbols. The lessons adapt to your goal.

Which areas of Bogotá do the teachers cover?

We give in-home lessons in and around Bogotá. Coverage depends on the neighborhood and each teacher’s availability, so send us your approximate address and we’ll confirm.

Can I take lessons from another city or from outside the country?

Yes, through live online lessons by video call, from any city in Colombia or abroad, with the same weekly follow-up. See how online music lessons work.

How much do lessons cost?

Each lesson lasts 90 minutes. With the monthly plan of 4 classes, each lesson costs less than a single class. See your rate on our pricing page.

Would you rather we message you?
